Demolition and land clearing in Hamilton and the Waikato

Houses, sheds and commercial buildings taken down and cleared, plus scrub, gorse and whole section clearing. Materials separated on site so less of it goes to landfill.

Does Trident Earthmoving do demolition and land clearing?

Yes. We take down houses, sheds and commercial buildings across Hamilton, Taupō and the Waikato with an excavator and demolition grapple. Power, water and gas are confirmed disconnected before anything moves, concrete, steel and timber are sorted on site, and cartage and disposal are part of the job. We also clear sections and lifestyle blocks, remove stumps and tidy up slips.

Taking it down properly

Demolition looks like the fun part and mostly is not. The machine work is straightforward. What takes the thought is the order you take things down in, what has to be disconnected first, and where all of it goes afterwards. We run a grapple on the excavator, which means we can pick a building apart and sort materials as we go rather than smashing everything into one mixed pile that all has to go to landfill.

Picked apart, not flattened

A demolition grapple lets us dismantle a building in a controlled way and separate concrete, steel and timber as we go. That keeps disposal costs down and keeps a lot of it out of landfill.

The paperwork comes first

Disconnections confirmed, consent sorted, and an asbestos survey done on anything pre 2000. We will tell you what your job needs before you commit, rather than finding out halfway through.

Down, sorted and carted

We demolish houses, sheds, farm buildings and commercial structures, strip sites back to bare ground, and cart the material away. Concrete, steel and timber get separated on site where it is practical.

On the clearing side we take out scrub, gorse and vegetation, clear whole sections and lifestyle blocks, pull out stumps and tidy up slips and overgrown ground.

How a demolition job runs

  1. Look at the building. What is in it, what is attached to it and what has to come off first.
  2. Check the disconnections. Power, water and gas disconnected and confirmed before anything moves.
  3. Quote it. Demolition, cartage and disposal, clearly separated.
  4. Take it down. Grapple work, sorted as we go rather than one mixed heap.
  5. Clear the site. Carted off and stripped back to bare ground.

What does demolition cost?

Demolition is priced mostly on what comes off the site rather than on what gets knocked down. Disposal is usually the single biggest cost. These are the things that move the number:

  • Size and construction. A timber shed and a block or concrete building are very different jobs for the same footprint.
  • Asbestos and hazardous material. Anything built before 2000 needs a survey. If asbestos is present it has to be removed under controls before demolition starts, and that is specialist work priced separately.
  • Disposal and sorting. Concrete, steel and clean timber can be separated and diverted. Mixed waste goes to landfill at a much higher rate, which is why we sort on site rather than after.
  • Access. Whether a truck can get alongside the building, and how far material has to be moved to reach it.
  • What is next to it. A standalone building comes down quickly. One attached to something that stays, or tight to a boundary, comes apart carefully.

We quote demolition, cartage and disposal separately so you can see what is driving the price, and we confirm the power, water and gas disconnections are done before anything starts.

Where we work

Based at Whakamaru, we cover Taupō, the South Waikato, Waipā, Hamilton and out to Rotorua and the King Country. Here is the patch, and what we tend to see on the ground.

Common questions

Still not sure? Give us a call and we will talk it through.

What about asbestos?

Anything built before the year 2000 needs a survey before demolition. If asbestos is present it has to be removed by a licensed removalist first. We will not touch a building until that is cleared.

Do I need a consent to demolish a building?

Often yes. Most full building demolitions need a consent, and there can be extra requirements if the building is older or has heritage protection. We will tell you what your job is likely to need before you commit.
