Excavator forming a rural driveway on a lifestyle block near Tīrau

Tīrau is the junction town where State Highways 1, 5 and 27 meet, which puts a lot of lifestyle properties on busy roads. Entranceways here have to handle sightlines and stormwater properly, not just the tanker.

What we do here

Entranceways, farm work and new builds

Around Tīrau the jobs split between dairy farms, lifestyle blocks with highway frontage, and new builds on the edge of town. Different jobs, same rule: sort the water first.

Driveways and entranceways

Entranceways off busy roads with the culvert, the crossing and the fall done properly, and rural driveways that hold up under a tanker or a stock truck.

Farm earthworks

Races, tracks, feed pads, silage pits and effluent work on the dairy farms around Tīrau, planned around milking.

House pads and retaining

Building platforms for new builds and the retaining walls that go with them on rolling sections, built to the engineer's design.

Working around Tīrau

Tīrau is small but it sees a lot of traffic, because three state highways meet in the middle of it. That matters for anyone putting in an entranceway on a lifestyle block along SH1, SH5 or SH27: the crossing has to be built to the roading standard, with a properly sized culvert and clear sightlines, and the council and roading authority both have a say.

The ground is volcanic ash over the same free draining pumice that runs through the South Waikato, with river terraces along the Waihou. Good building ground when it is compacted properly, and easy to shape. The rolling country behind the town is dairy, with the usual race, crossing and feed pad work.

Tīrau is in the South Waikato District. Consents go through South Waikato District Council, and state highway entranceways need approval from the roading authority as well. We have done both before and can walk you through it.

Questions we get from around here

The things people around Tīrau ask us before a job starts.

Can you put an entranceway onto the state highway?

Yes. It needs approval from the roading authority as well as council, and it has to be built to their standard with the right culvert and sightlines. We have done it before and can help with the paperwork.

How long does a rural driveway take?

A straightforward entranceway is often a day or two. A long driveway with culverts takes longer. We give you a realistic timeframe with the quote.

Do you supply the metal?

Yes. We supply and cart metal with our own truck and trailer, or win it from a pit on the property if there is one that is good enough.
