Earthworks and horse arena contractors in Cambridge

House pads and site works for the builders working Cambridge's new subdivisions, retaining walls and driveways for lifestyle blocks, and arenas for the horse properties the town is known for.

Large compacted and laser levelled arena base being rolled on a lifestyle block near Cambridge

Cambridge is growing fast and it is horse country. Most of what we do here is new build work for builders and developers, and arenas, tracks and yards for the equestrian and thoroughbred properties around the town.

What we do here

New builds, lifestyle blocks and horse properties

Two things drive the work around Cambridge: the pace of new building on the edges of town, and the number of horse properties on the lifestyle blocks around it. We do both.

House pads and site works

Building platforms, site scrapes and service trenching for builders and developers across Cambridge's growth areas, set out with grade control and compacted to the engineer's spec.

Horse arenas

Arenas built from the base up: cut to level, drained properly, base compacted and rolled, ready for the surface. This is the equestrian capital, so we do a lot of them.

Retaining walls and driveways

Retaining on the river terraces and rolling sections, and driveways and entranceways for lifestyle blocks along the roads out of town.

Working around Cambridge

Cambridge sits on the Waikato River above Lake Karapiro, on free draining volcanic ash and river terrace soils. It is good building ground, which is one reason the town has grown as quickly as it has. Pads compact well, batters hold, and drainage is usually about getting the water to an outlet rather than fighting a high water table.

The other thing about Cambridge is horses. The thoroughbred studs, training tracks and equestrian properties around the town mean arena work is a regular part of what we do here. An arena is a drainage and compaction job before it is anything else: the base decides how it rides and how long the surface lasts, and we build it with a laser level and a roller, not by eye.

Cambridge is in the Waipā District, so consents and engineering sign-off go through Waipā District Council. On the subdivisions we are usually working for a builder or a developer, on lifestyle blocks directly for the owner.

Questions we get from around here

The things people around Cambridge ask us before a job starts.

What does a horse arena cost to build?

It depends on the site: slope, size, where the water can drain to, how far the base material has to come and what surface you want. We explain what moves the number on our horse arenas page, and we quote each arena on site.

Do you work for builders on the new subdivisions?

Yes. House pads, site works and service trenching for builders and developers is most of our Cambridge work, built to the engineer's level so the inspection is straightforward.

How far out of Cambridge do you go?

Karapiro, Leamington, Hautapu, Tamahere, Ōhaupō and the lifestyle blocks in between are all part of our normal run.
