Earthworks and civil contractors based in Whakamaru
This is home. Our yard is at Whakamaru, so if your job is anywhere on the plateau between Tokoroa, Mangakino and Taupō, we are the closest Tōtika prequalified crew to it.

Whakamaru sits where State Highway 30 meets State Highway 32, on the Waikato River hydro chain. From the yard we can be on a job in Mangakino, Tokoroa or Ātiamuri inside half an hour, and in Taupō in about 45 minutes.
Farm, lifestyle and civil work on our own doorstep
Being local means no travel charge to get here, quick turnaround on small jobs, and a crew that already knows what the pumice around here does when it gets wet.
Farm earthworks
Races, tracks, culverts and crossings on the dairy conversions and grazing blocks around Whakamaru and Mangakino. On pumice, the formation and the drainage decide whether a race lasts.
House pads and driveways
Pads, driveways and site works for the lake settlements and lifestyle blocks along the hydro lakes. Cut, filled and compacted to the engineer's level.
Civil and drainage
Stormwater and infrastructure work for councils and head contractors on the plateau, with trench shields, grade control and engineer sign-off as standard.
Working on Whakamaru pumice
The ground around Whakamaru is Taupō pumice. It drains freely and digs easily, which is the good news. The catch is that it has almost no strength when it is loose, and it erodes badly where water is allowed to concentrate. A race or a batter that has not been shaped to shed water will tunnel and slump within a couple of winters.
So on every job here we spend more time on the formation, the compaction and the outlet than most people expect, and less on the surface. It is the difference between a track that is still there in five years and one we get called back to rebuild.
Whakamaru is in the Taupō District, so consents and engineering sign-off go through Taupō District Council. The Waikato River and the hydro lakes also mean regional council rules apply close to the water. We work with both regularly.
- Farm races, tracks and crossings on converted forestry country
- House pads and driveways for lake sections along the Waikato hydro chain
- Culverts, table drains and subsoil drainage on wet pumice ground
- Civil and infrastructure work for council and head contractors on the plateau

What we take on
Civil construction is the core of it. Around that we do the earthworks, drainage and farm work that keeps a site moving.
Questions we get from around here
The things people around Whakamaru ask us before a job starts.
No. Whakamaru, Mangakino and Ātiamuri are on our doorstep, so there is no travel component in the price for jobs here.
Both. Being local, a half day on a driveway or a culvert is easy to fit in between the bigger jobs. Give Scott a call and we will find a slot.
Almost always water. Pumice tunnels and slumps wherever water is allowed to run down it. We reshape the formation so it sheds, sort the drainage, then re-metal, and that is why it lasts.
Still have questions?
Give Scott a call, or send the form and we will come and look at the job.
