Earthworks and farm contractors in Putāruru

Races, crossings and culverts on the dairy farms, and pads, driveways and drainage on the lifestyle blocks around town. Forty minutes from our Whakamaru yard.

Timber farm bridge built over a stream with a formed track approach in the South Waikato

Putāruru is dairy country with spring fed streams running through it, which means crossings, culverts and drainage matter more here than on drier ground. Most of our Putāruru work is on farms, with a growing share of lifestyle block work on the edges of town.

What we do here

Dairy farms, streams and lifestyle blocks

The country around Putāruru is flat to rolling dairy land cut through by spring fed streams. That shapes the work: crossings, culverts and races that stay dry, and pads and driveways on the lifestyle blocks along the roads out of town.

Farm earthworks

Races, tracks, feed pads and silage pits, plus the culverts and crossings that get stock and machinery across the streams without washing out.

Driveways and house pads

Driveways and building platforms for new builds and lifestyle blocks around Putāruru, formed and drained properly before any metal goes on.

Drainage

Farm drainage, table drains and culverts on wet ground, and civil stormwater work where a job needs shoring, grade control and engineer sign-off.

Working around Putāruru

Putāruru sits on State Highway 1 between Tīrau and Tokoroa, in the middle of the South Waikato dairy belt. The Te Waihou and other spring fed streams around the town run clear and cold all year, which is great for the district and a constant consideration for anyone doing earthworks near them.

The soils are volcanic ash over pumice: free draining and easy to work, but the streams and the high water table in the low spots mean crossings and culverts need to be sized and placed properly. A crossing put in the wrong spot, or a culvert that is too small, is the most common thing we get called out to fix.

Putāruru is in the South Waikato District, so consents go through South Waikato District Council, and work in or near the streams comes under Waikato Regional Council rules. We work with both.

Questions we get from around here

The things people around Putāruru ask us before a job starts.

Can you put a crossing over a stream on the farm?

Yes. Culverts, crossings and timber farm bridges are regular work for us. We size the culvert for the flow, not the pipe that happens to be handy, and we deal with the regional council side where the stream needs it.

Can you work around milking?

Yes. We plan the job around milking, the tanker and calving so the farm keeps running while we are there.

Do you use metal from our own pit?

Often, yes. If there is a workable pit on the property we will look at it and tell you honestly whether the material is good enough. It usually saves a lot on cartage. If not, we supply and cart it in ourselves.
