Farm earthworks and drainage contractors in Ōtorohanga
Races, tracks, culverts and crossings on King Country farms, where hill country and heavy rain mean the drainage matters more than almost anywhere we work. About an hour from our yard.

Ōtorohanga is where the Waikato flats meet the King Country hills. Flat dairy land along the Waipā River, sheep and beef on the limestone hill country behind it, and a lot of water moving through both. Most of our work here is farm work.
Hill country farms and river flats
The country around Ōtorohanga is steeper and wetter than the Waikato proper. Tracks that hold, crossings that do not wash out and drainage that actually works are the jobs that keep us coming back.
Farm tracks and races
Tracks and races formed with proper crossfall and outlets on hill country, and races on the river flats built to shed water rather than hold it.
Culverts and crossings
Culverts, crossings and timber farm bridges over the streams and drains, sized for King Country rainfall.
Drainage and slip repair
Farm drainage and table drains on the flats, and slip clearing, batter reshaping and retaining on the hill country after a wet winter.
Working in the King Country
Ōtorohanga sits on the Waipā River with flat dairy land along the river and limestone hill country rising behind it towards Waitomo. The flats flood, the hills slip, and both get more rain than the central Waikato. That combination is why drainage is the first conversation on almost every job here.
On the hills the ground is limestone and papa mudstone under a thin topsoil. Papa turns to grease when it is wet, which is why tracks cut without proper crossfall and outlets slump, and why slips are a regular winter job. We form tracks to shed water off the hill, not down it, and we put culverts and cut-offs where the water actually runs.
On the flats the work is more familiar dairy earthworks: races, feed pads, crossings and drainage, planned around milking. Ōtorohanga District Council handles consents, and anything touching the river or the streams comes under Waikato Regional Council rules.

What we take on
Civil construction is the core of it. Around that we do the earthworks, drainage and farm work that keeps a site moving.
Questions we get from around here
The things people around Ōtorohanga ask us before a job starts.
Usually. Most hill tracks slip because they were cut without crossfall and the water runs down them instead of off them. We reshape the formation, put in cut-offs and culverts where the water actually runs, and metal it properly.
Yes. Culverts, crossings and timber bridges over drains and streams are regular work for us, sized for the rainfall here rather than for the Waikato flats.
Yes. It is about an hour from our yard, so we plan farm work here in blocks of a few days rather than half days, and we work in around milking.
