Hamilton is where most of our commercial and residential work sits. New growth cells at Rototuna, Peacocke and Rotokauri, a city full of gully sections that need retaining, and older suburbs being redeveloped one section at a time.

What we do here

Subdivisions, gully sections and infill sites

Hamilton is a city job, which means traffic management, tight sites, existing services and a council that expects everything to be to the drawing. We are set up for exactly that.

Subdivision and civil earthworks

Bulk earthworks, roading formation, stormwater and wastewater on subdivision and infrastructure sites for developers and head contractors, on Tōtika prequalified sites.

House pads and retaining walls

Building platforms for builders across the growth cells, and the retaining walls Hamilton's gully sections need, built to the engineer's design with the drainage in behind.

Demolition and site clearing

Taking down older houses and commercial buildings on infill and redevelopment sites, with services disconnected, material sorted and the site left ready for the next build.

Working on Hamilton ground

Hamilton sits on two very different kinds of ground. Most of the city is on Hamilton ash over old river deposits, which drains well and makes good building ground. The low lying areas around the edges, particularly to the south and west, have peat, and peat does not hold a house pad or a road without being dug out and replaced or engineered around. Knowing which one you are on before you price the job is half the battle.

The other Hamilton feature is the gully network. A huge number of residential sections back onto a gully, which means retaining walls, batters and careful stormwater on jobs that would be flat and simple somewhere else. We build the pad, the wall and the drainage as one job rather than three.

Hamilton City Council handles consents and engineering sign-off within the city, with Waikato District Council and Waipā District Council on the edges. On subdivision and infrastructure work we are usually working for a developer or a head contractor, and traffic management on live streets is part of most jobs.

Questions we get from around here

The things people in Hamilton ask us before a job starts.

Do you take on subcontract civil work for head contractors?

Yes, a good deal of our Hamilton work is subcontract civil on larger projects. We hold Tōtika prequalification and run our own traffic management where the job needs it.

Can you build a retaining wall on a gully section?

Yes. Gully sections are the most common retaining job in Hamilton. We build to the engineer's design, put drainage coil and free draining backfill behind every wall, and sort where the stormwater goes so the wall stays put.

What if my section is on peat?

Then the pad needs more than a scrape and a roller. Peat has to be dug out and replaced, or the design has to allow for it. We will tell you which before we price it, not after.
