Civil contractors in the Waikato and Taupō
Stormwater and wastewater mains, treatment plant works, shored trenching and subdivision civil. Tōtika prequalified, with grade control on the machine.

What civil construction does Trident Earthmoving do?
Trident Earthmoving is a Tōtika prequalified civil contractor based at Whakamaru. We lay stormwater and wastewater mains, build manholes and chambers, excavate and bed treatment plant tanks, and form subdivision roading and hardfill across the Waikato and Taupō, working for councils, developers and head contractors, with grade control on the machine and engineer sign-off on every job.
What we take on
Most of what we do is civil. Three waters infrastructure, treatment plant works, roading and subdivision earthworks, running alongside head contractors and councils on sites where the specification and the paperwork matter as much as the dig. That is a different job to backyard earthmoving, and it needs a different setup. Shoring for deep trenches, traffic management on live carriageways, survey control on every level, and a prequalification that lets us through the gate in the first place.
Built to the drawing
Levels come off the model through grade control rather than off a string line, so batters, inverts and formation levels are right the first time. On a civil job that is the difference between passing an inspection and doing it twice.
Set up for live sites
Trench shields for deep excavation, traffic management on live carriageways, and Tōtika prequalification so we are through the gate without holding your programme up.

Civil work, built to spec
We lay stormwater and wastewater mains, including large diameter precast pipe, and build the manholes and chambers that go with them. We excavate and bed tanks for treatment plants, run service trenches around live infrastructure, and form the roading and hardfill that ties a site together.
Because we run grade control on the 313F, levels come off the model rather than off a string line. On a civil job that is the difference between a batter that passes first time and one you do twice.
How a civil job runs
- Look at the drawings. We go through the spec, the levels and the site constraints before we price anything.
- Price the job properly. A clear scope, so you know what is in and what is not.
- Set up the site. Shoring, traffic management and survey control sorted before the first bucket.
- Build to the drawing. Levels off the model, work checked as we go.
- Hand over clean. Site tidied, and as-builts where the job calls for them.
What does civil work cost?
Civil work is priced off the drawings, not off a rate card. Two jobs with the same length of pipe can be very different once you account for what is around them. These are the things that move the number:
- Depth. The deeper the trench, the more shoring it needs, the wider the excavation gets and the more spoil there is to handle. Depth changes a job more than length does.
- Ground and existing services. Rock slows everything down. So does working around live services, where locating and hand digging take over from the machine.
- Traffic management. Work on a live carriageway needs a traffic management plan and often night or weekend hours. A greenfield site needs neither.
- Spoil and imported material. Whether spoil can stay on site or has to be carted, and how far bedding and backfill have to come.
- Programme. A job we can run straight through costs differently to one that has to fit in around other trades.
We price off the drawings and give you a clear scope showing what is in and what is not, so variations get discussed before they happen rather than after.
Where we work
Based at Whakamaru, we cover Taupō, the South Waikato, Waipā, Hamilton and out to Rotorua and the King Country. Here is the patch, and what we tend to see on the ground.
Common questions
Still not sure? Give us a call and we will talk it through.
Yes. We hold Tōtika, New Zealand's national health and safety prequalification standard for contractors. It is what most councils, government agencies and head contractors check before they let anyone on site, and it is not something you pick up by accident.
Deep. We use trench shields and shoring for deep excavation rather than battering everything back, which matters when you are working in a tight corridor, in a live carriageway or close to existing services.
Two CAT 313F excavators, with grade control for accuracy work, a 3 tonne excavator for tight access, and a Hino 300 tip truck for cartage. For larger civil scopes we bring in hired plant at short notice, so the job isn't limited to what's parked on the yard.
